The Technical Support Team 5403\\-2 has an opening for a qualified Mechanical Technologist to be a member of Center 5400 Technical Laboratories operations\\. The successful candidate will be required to perform a broad spectrum of tasks in managing everyday operations of laboratory activities and will be supporting various projects throughout the mission life\\-cycle\\. This position requires ability with systems design and configuration, assembly, testing, and fielding of aerospace products developed in the Center\\. The successful candidate will be considered an integral member of a diverse team of technologists\\. The Technical Support Team strives for continuous improvement through training and mentoring, while developing the labs into models of excellence\\. Travel is required, possibly for extended periods\\. Tasks to be performed include:
+ Working with explosives from component check\\-out, to installation and verification, to arming and firing\\.
+ Working with pressure systems in a variety of stages of development, from component level to completed systems\\.
+ Developing, building, testing, and maintaining pressure systems for flight vehicles as well as a variety of ground support equipment\\.
+ Developing test hardware from the design stages through build and use, including the instrumentation and data capture of testing\\.
+ Managing safety supplies and equipment in the labs, such as eyewash stations, emergency showers, personal protection equipment and other items as needed within the labs\\.
+ Maintenance and inspection of laboratory equipment such as forklifts, cranes and rigging, manlifts, GSA passenger vehicles and other similar pieces of equipment\\.
+ Maintenance and calibration of laboratory tools including explosives multi\\-meters, torque wrenches, and scales\\.
+ Responsibility for maintaining laboratory supplies including hardware \\(nuts and bolts\\), chemicals, and disposables that include paper towels, containers, etc\\.
+ Supporting shipping and receiving efforts for large shipments that go over land, air, and sea to reach their destination\\.
+ Basic lab operations will include operating forklifts, scissor lift, and cranes, the proper usage and disposal of a wide variety of chemicals, minor machine tool use\\.
In addition to the listed tasks, the employee may be requested to perform other tasks as needed but they would be within the scope of the listed tasks\\. The candidate selected will be expected to value the members of the team and effectively assist them by developing and implementing the vision and goals for the team, setting high expectations, help remove roadblocks to progress while maintaining a safe, secure, and productive work environment\\.
+ Your experience includes mechanical assembly and testing operations \\(develop, build, and test hardware from schematics/drawings\\)\\.
+ You have experience with forklift, scissor lift, and crane operations\\.
+ Experience with maintenance of laboratory equipment
+ Ability to travel when required \\(sometimes for extended periods\\) and ability to work overtime when required\\.
Ideally, your background will also include some of the following:
+ Experience in an aerospace quality laboratory environment with FOD control, ESD control, and other flight hardware protective measures\\.
+ Training in explosives operations\\.
+ Certified pressure worker with applicable experience\\.
+ Specific training in Swagelock equipment, including welders and other tools\\.
+ Machine tool operating experience\\.
+ Experience with design software such as Pro\\-E, Solid\\-Works, Auto\\-Cad, or Visio\\.
+ Experience with 3\\-D printers and their operations\\.
+ Previous use of instrumentation that includes strain gauges, thermistors, pressure transducers, and diagnostic equipment\\.
+ Experience with non\\-conformance processes\\.
+ Ability to work independently and as part of a broader team for mission success\\.
