Job Description -Performs assigned routine preventative maintenance on mechanical and electrical equipment at the wastewater treatment plant and potable water well sites. -Cleans and repairs trucks, sludge filters, aerators, and filtration equipment. -Assists in operating plant equipment to control the flow and maintain proper treatment levels. -Assists in taking potable water and sanitary sewer samples to perform routine and simple chemical analysis to determine that all facilities are operating effectively and correctly. -Reports defects and needs for major repairs to supervisor. -Assist supervisor in performance of work duties, as assigned, including making inspections, taking readings, and using test equipment. -Performs other duties as assigned. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: -Limited general knowledge of mechanical electrical and plumbing work is required. -Some knowledge of basic chemistry and mathematics. -General knowledge of the occupational hazards of the work and the necessary safety procedures to be followed. -Ability to read meters and charts accurately, as well as maintaining records of shift operations when directed to do so. -Basic understanding of the sciences involved in wastewater treatment and potable water treatment. -Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions. -Ability to draft reports on various phases of operation. Requirements BASIC REQUIREMENTS: Education:High School Diploma or equivalent Experience:One year experience in a general mechanical maintenance operation. Possession of a State of Florida DEP Class -C- Domestic Wastewater or Water Facilities Operator Certification may be substituted for experience and would qualify for higher starting pay range. LICENSE REQUIREMENTS, CERTIFICATES, ETC.: -Successful completion of Operation of Wastewater Treatment Plants Volumes 1 and 2 FDEP approved training courses within first six (6) months of employment. -Within one (1) year of employment must obtain a State of Florida DEP Class -C- Wastewater license.
